Mission

There are a million blogs out there about Web Design, Graphics & Development that are all unique and offer great content. What makes Pro Design Blog Social Network different is that we are a community based on YOU. You provide the content, the resources and the innovation that makes up what Pro Design Blog Social Network is and will be. Think of it as your Open Source Web Design portal, the Wikipedia of Web Design & Development.

A lot of other sites offer great resources, content and inspiration to fellow web designers but they often lack the one thing in which we are trying to accomplish. That is engaging the Web Design community and allowing an Open Forum for people to share and connect. What makes Pro Design Blog Social Network different is that YOU are different. The idea that we will not conform to one way, one channel, one source because as Web Designers, Developers, Graphic Artists we are all unique and different. We all have something Different to offer.

Zoom-eyed Creatures 1 & 2 Free Icon Set

April 3, 2010 in Graphics by Aaron Kantrowitz

Spotted @ Turbomilk, a Free Icon Set “Zoom-eyed Creatures”.

When a man works on a computer he looks into the monitor and sees various applications. We thought: “What if the applications could look back at the man with their large clear eyes?!” This idea lead to the creation of a free set of goggled Zoomeyes 2 icons meant to replace the default application icons.

If you ever get a feeling of being followed, this is quite normal. Do not worry, it’s not paranoia. You are being followed by a team of picked zoom-eyed creatures. They have popped their eyes and are full of attention.

Turbodesigner Olesia Kozlova have drawn a set of icons with the nicest goggle-eyed creatures — champions of staring contests. You are free to do whatever you want with them but be careful not to let them subdue your mind. Take this hypnotoad to start with.

Unique Graphic Colour Codes

January 3, 2010 in Graphics, Inspiration by Aaron Kantrowitz

How can graphic design offer a solution to those who are color blind? Graphic Colour Codes developed by Color Add has come out with a solution for this after lots of research. Although you may not have a need for this now, you never know if it will come in handy some day!

The system proposed is based on the pigment color, using as basis the primary colors:
BLUE (cyan), RED (magenta), YELLOW

The code is “built” starting from three simple forms to:

Allow an easy and immediate apprehension of the graphic element;
Quick integration on the “visual vocabulary”;
Easy to be applied/produced in small dimensions

It becomes a mental game which will allow the individual to simply connect the colors and its subsequent division into different colors with
no memorizing effort, through mixing simple forms combined with the elementary chromatic combinations.

To each primary code form is associated a color and of the three forms/colors appears and develops the whole code, in as much as the colors are based on the division of these three elements.

Basic form

Basic form

Two additional forms were added representing black and white, in conjunction with the other elements they represent lighter or darker tons of the colors.

Graphic Elements:

Each primary color of the code is associated to three forms which represent red, yellow and blue, from these three that the code is developed.
The secondary colors can be formed using the basic forms as if “mixing” the primary pigments themselves making their perception and subsequently the composition of a color pallet easy.

Basic formula

Lighter and Darker variations:

By associating the icons representing white and black to define darker and lighter tones to the three basic forms and their additions, a wide palette is constructed.
Conventional color designations were attributed to the additions and other combinations of colors, especially those used in apparel.

Lighter and darker hues

Grey Tone:

Grey, a tone of “color” used frequently in articles of clothing, was divided into two tonalities.

Special Colors:
Considering the logic of the code construction, these colors are represented by the combination of the golden-yellow and the element representing shine to define gold; light grey combined with the same element identifies silver.

Guerrilla Theme, A Free Wordpress Theme

December 19, 2009 in Designer by Aaron Kantrowitz

This is a great example of a theme that could be used as an excellent Wordpress framework. It’s clean, simple and easy to customize. Check out the information on this theme as well as the demo and download link!

The time has finally come to release the first freebie in the Guerrilla network.  Today is a great day for me and I am excited to announce that the first free wordpress theme from Guerrilla Themes is now available – and downloadable right here on WP Guerrilla. Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the questions I figured I’d answer and get out of the way ahead of time. If theres one that you do not see on the list, feel free to leave a comment or shoot me an email.

What if I do not have a logo and just want the blog title text?

Well, do not select the checkbox in the MAIN OPTIONS section for the logo and your blog title will appear in place.

Does this theme give IE6 support?

No, it doesn’t – I haven’t looked at it in any IE6 and will never look at it in IE6. I was contemplating having a box pop up letting your readers know they need to upgrade to IE8 but I left that out of this release. If there’s enough requests for it, I’ll add it into a future release.

What is the TIMTHUMB options?

TimThumb is a php script built by Darren Hoyt and was released as an open source project. You can read more about it by clicking here. If you do not select the checkbox, the timthumb images will not show. If you do select it but forget to add a custom field for any posts, there is no theme breaking. The custom field key is “image”.

The max width of the post box is 536 so if you want the image to stretch across and fit perfectly with that width, that is the pixel width you need to use.

What do I need for the advertisement codes section?

@suedecrush asked me about this when testing the theme so I knew I should add it here as well – the code boxes are for the FULL html codes for your ads, not just the url of the ad.

Do I need to add the page navigation plugin?

Nope – it’s already coded into the theme. Enjoy (*note, if you have the wp-page-navi plugin installed, it will break the theme so make sure it’s deactivated if you’ve used it previously)

I want to style the theme and change some css codes – how do I do that?

I added a custom.css file into the main theme folder that you can add codes into in order to edit the theme styling without editing the original theme css files. Simplicity and ease of use is what I was after here – can you tell? I’ve already pre populated the custom.css file with some of the main css style sets for the header/footer/navigation/ect so you know what to change.

What should I do if I want to have this theme customized for my site?

Funny you should ask – you know, I run a custom blog and web design company by the name of Guerrilla right? Well, it just so happens that, as the builder of this theme, I am able to customize it with ease. Below are a couple of the sites I have built that used this theme – only, more customized. (If you’d like to have your theme customized, please do not hesitate to contact me).

Moo Bar, A Free Customizable Javascript Network Bar

December 19, 2009 in Developer by Aaron Kantrowitz

Moo Bar is a neat little Javascript toolbar from DesignMoo that is similar to those from Facebook and Meebo. The script is that of the actual DesignMoo network bar that is displayed on the bottom of all their network web sites. They went public with the script today and it’s available for download under the Creative Commons Attribution License. Details are below along with instructions, download link and license details. Enjoy!

Ever wanted to have a network toolbar on your website or network of sites? Well, your search ends here. The Moo Bar is a simple, framework independent (meaning it doesn’t require jQuery, Mootools, YUI, Prototype, etc.) javascript toolbar you can embed on your website with a single line of code. This page shows an example of the toolbar attached to the bottom of your browser window.

Download, Customize, Upload, and Install

(Click here to demo the bar before downloading)

  1. Download the files!
  2. Edit the variables in moobar.js to reflect your own data. The file is commented with special instructions to make it super easy. Make sure you edit the unordered list to include the links for the menu that you would like to use.
  3. Edit the images in /moobar/images/ to look the way you want. I would recommend keeping them the same size to avoid styling/functionality issues.
  4. Upload the folder to the base URL you set in your Javascript file.
  5. Embed the Javascript bar into each site using the following code (make sure to replace the path with the one you’ve uploaded the files to):
    <script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://www.yourwebsite.com/moobar/moobar.js”></script>

If you do happen to use this code, please let us know in the comments and we’d love to link to your site as an example of the network bar in use.

The MooBar by Designmoo is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 United States License.
Based on a work at www.designmoo.com.

Sweet! A Free Privacy Policy / Terms Of Service Generator

December 15, 2009 in Developer by Aaron Kantrowitz

Ever worked on a project and needed to write a privacy policy or terms of service page within an short amount of time? Meet my best little friend, Ben Nadels Privacy Policy / Terms Of Service Generator!

Bens is the chief software engineer at Epicenter Consulting, a boutique software company in New York City that specializes in developing high-end, customized business solutions using ColdFusion and jQuery. Ben decided to develop a form that will generate a generic Terms of Service and Privacy Policy statement for use with your web site. It is based off of the template that was taken from a House of Fusion forum thread and has not, in any way, been reviewed by a lawyer.

Just type in the name of your company as well as the state your company operates in and wa la! You got yourself a Privacy Policy that might not have been reviewed by a lawyer but looks pretty dang official to us!

Check it out here at http://www.bennadel.com/coldfusion/privacy-policy-generator.htm.
